Leez Priory

I still do, and always will LOVE Leez Priory, it is a truly stunning venue…

I’ll never forget the first time I came down the drive and saw this amazing building and was truly blown away by the sheer beauty of the house and its grounds.

If I’m honest, I’d say I was quite shocked that members of the public could get married there!

Anyway, 15 years and several hundred weddings later, photographing a wedding at Leez Priory still fills me with a certain sense of joy.

Recently it snowed, just before a wedding I was due to photograph at Leez. Now ordinarily, such an event would fill me with dread! The idea of ploughing through 12 inches of snow…

However, because it was Leez, I was desperate to get there and photograph that wedding! I was so excited by the prospect of covering a wedding there, in the snow.

So, why is it so special?

Well, firstly, the front of the building is magnificent, beautifully sculpted, with exceedingly well cared for grounds.

Secondly, there are a lot of places to take in for the photography. The tower, the pond, the front of the house, the gates, the piano room, not to mention a few secret hidey holes that are quite beautiful…

It’s a photographers dream.

Literally every time you turn around there is another beautiful spot to take a picture.

If you’re looking for an amazing wedding venue, where you can get beautiful photographs no matter what the weather, then Leez Priory is perfect.

PK.

Leez Priory is a beautiful Tudor Manor House, in the heart of Essex. In our opinion, Leez is one of the few venues where it is essential that your photographer is pretty au fait with the layout of the venue. Leez is full of beautiful little spots great for photography and video, shots by the lake, in front of the house, by the tower, near the cottage, the list goes on!Prior to the service, shots of the bride, her shoes and flowers can be taken in the hall, near the Brides changing room. The Groom and Ushers can be photographed walking down to the house ‘reservoir dogs style’ and close ups can be taken in the doorway in the courtyard. The light in the Tower and Coach house are perfect during the ceremony for some natural light shots. After the ceremony, we suggest that The Bride and Groom go for a walk, taking in the grounds, while we stop at strategic points for photographs. A group shot of everybody can be taken from the gatehouse window, with everyone looking up.If you are getting married in the gatehouse or great hall, and want video, careful planning and preferably a pre wedding meet at Leez Priory will result in a superior finish. Both these spots are strongly backlit, which means either careful placing (a big cross on the floor where you need to stand!) or a video light. If it rains or it’s too cold then beautiful groups and close ups can be taken in the Piano room.If it is especially sunny, then it can be difficult to take photographs at the front of the house, as it gets the full force of the sun.If you’re having a summer wedding, we suggest you have a package where the photographer and videographer stay on until later in the day, so we can take you to the front just before the sun sets, for some fabulous photographs… Winner of Wedding Ideas Magazine ‘Best Wedding Venue’ two years running (2007 & 2008), this magnificent Tudor mansion is one of the most sought after wedding venues in the country and has nearly twenty years of experience in providing perfect wedding days. His Augustinian priory thrived for over 300 years until King Henry VIII sent Sir Richard Rich to dismiss the monastery. When Sir Richard Rich became the Earl of Warwick, he built his own great house on the site that is now known as Leez Priory. In the years that followed, the mansion has been home to the Earls of Warwick and has been visited by Queen Elizabeth I, Princess Mary[disambiguation needed ] and many other nobles from the past.In his recent book on the origins of the English Civil War, John Adamson has emphasised the magnificence and political radicalism of Leez Priory in the 17th century. He concludes that in 1640 Leez and its owner, Robert Rich, 2nd Earl of Warwick, were probably the “topographical and moral centre” of opposition to the King.[1]Much of it was demolished in 1753.In the late 1980s, Leez Priory was purchased by its current owners, The Country House Weddings group.
